Good morning my fellow vloggers and designers Well here we are again
And now today we are off to the kitchen suppliers We are going to go and have a look through some of the choices that we have for the bathrooms at the new Sloane Square job I'm getting ahead of time here I think I might have shown you on my other videos, I'm getting ahead of time and going in early to actually decide what there is, what can be done, and what would be good so I can suggest a few things when I next see the client So that's where I am heading today
Then I've got to pop into town, a little appointment and then after that I am heading back home for some more video editing So it should be quite a straightforward day Time does run away with you when you go into places like bathroom suppliers and kitchen suppliersThe only issue tends to be really is that you can get lost in your job as it were; which is quite a good thing to do, I think! Anyway, it's a very cloudy overcast day here in London but let's get on with the day! And here we are the kitchen designers and we're deep in discussion, just explaining here to the lady, Sophia, who is putting all the drawings together for us, the design that Kalin and I have come up with So we're just explaining the rudiments of the design to Sophia
Make this a little bit deeper Thats the heated towel rail that will go in So we'd recess a heated towel rail inside that recess and that side we're going to have a recess, just for them to place Shampoos
possibly with a glass shelf We can put lights there on top of the recess As long as they work, I'm just a bit paranoid about lights And you know what we're doing here This is a shower where we've put the shower's got four lights in it So because this design is something that I've put together beforehand we're just relaying all the stuff
So Kalin's got all his notes here that can be found and everything will be put into a 3D program as it were, so the lovely Sophia will put everything in there so we can actually see what it's going to look like with all the things that I've chosen And you generally just have to sit here with pen and pencil just making sure that things fit, things look right, and just to really go through the scenario plan of can you actually get through the door between the shower and the wall and do you want your shower controls on hand before you get in the shower itself All those sorts of things There's a lot of explaining to do and if you can't do it yourself or don't want to do it yourself it's quite handy having a kitchen and bathroom suppliers that can actually know what you're talking about and can relay stuff between each other and get everything sorted This is generally what I tend to do
These things can take a matter of hours or days as there's usually two of three different visits that you can do to actually get it right It is much better to do these things when you're there rather than do things over the phone or on email, it takes an awful lot more time so I would heartily say to anybody go into your kitchen and bathroom suppliers to sort this type of thing out And then you can draw it through, and take things away and 3D plans can be printed and you can work through them and go to the clients with them and get these things sorted out with the clients It's very much better Sometimes the clients will say "yes I do like this, no I don't like that" and then you can relay this back to the supplier and say this is what we're doing and any other changes that they need to be made aware of
It's time consuming but that's part of the job Again you have to remember it's for someone else not you, so you do have to think of the practicalities and this is where experience comes in The more you do these things, the better it is So that's clear And these tilesyou wanted on which? Ideally, I definitely wanted them hereand I definitely wanted them there If I just put 'feature tiles'
Because when they come inthey will see itand depending on how it could go, because they're in sheets They're a funny size Yes, they're very specificbut I kind of just thought that they can go in there
If it means, I guess we can look at that once the design is done Why not this background be white? Just white tiles with the white tray and just have the surround Maybe, well I thought that if the heated towel rail is going in there then you can have a plain background Because that one is quite busy and we'd lose the radiator I don't think we'll be seeing it I mean I quite like just having this surround
blue blue blue and on that little return then have blue there and blue there; it's almost framed Without any tiles? Just paint? No with tiles, but white, and in fact I may even match the white tiles to the ones on the floor And so the discussion moves on to the actual cabinets themselves which is this dark wood here It's a little bit Shaker style as you can see, but that's going to look really quite special You have to think of the overall scheme so once you put the brown with the blue of the tiles and the white which will perhaps go on the floor, it makes a striking combination People don't really think about putting blue with brown together but it's beautiful when you do put it together So it's one thing for people to watch, a tip there for you! Don't discount that! Of course, look at things such as texture so stoneware
This is for kitchens and bathrooms incidentally but most notably for bathrooms You need to look whether things are gloss, whether they've got a fleck in them, whether they're honed, how thick they are, are they porous, do they need treating or sealing, all these types of things Generally your supplier can tell you, so that's always good! Once you've had a look at things you can put everything together It's a lot of work and a lot of paperwork as you can see; a little bit messy but that's OK Once you've gone through everything, make sure you've ticked all the boxes and have checked every single thing that's there to check that you're doubly sure that you haven't left any stone or wood unturned because you would regret it if you haven't got the exact thing that you want for your clients
But I think the brown and the blue will work together really quite well Taps are another thing of course This is a Tres brochure They've been going for a long time Very trustworthy brand
They've got an enormous supply There's loads that you can go to Obviously Hansgrohe is one that is well known so I would have a look all of these and at least make it consistent in your bathroom, that's the main thing to do Go for something a little bit different as well! And this bathroom here, is the basement bathroom This is quite an interesting one to do as it's very small and in the vaults
As I said, it's very small and narrow and this is a step down and it's in this corner here that we want to put a shower area in which means that we're going to have to dig down which is going to cost a bit of money so I am not quite sure that they client wants to do it but if they do we're going to micro cement it, which is a very urban way of doing things, which should be fun And here is some micro cement things that you can do It's quite interesting to see all the different bits that you can do with it It's just sprayed on, you have to do a couple of layers but it does work and you can do all sorts of different shapes and sizes for baths and you can just leave it there It's a very urban look
She may not like it but it would be a definite modernisation if they were to do it Whether it's a basin such as this or the whole bathroom We shall see! Exciting times ahead!
